Upcycled newspaper, turned into Easter decoration!

beautyOn the hunt for the best body lotion

Body Lotion-Nourish Organic

[German/English] We all tend to stick with one product that works for us. But what if the manufacturer decides to no longer produce it? Or, like in my case, you’re a frequent traveller and your favorite product is simply not available in the new location? Canadian or North American cosmetic companies are not very generous with supplying samples so it took me some time to compile this first selection of body lotions for a little review.

musicLove live music? Visit the Horseshoe Tavern Toronto!

Horseshoe-Tavern-Toronto

[German/English] I am not going to say much here, because one word pretty much sums it up: awesome. The Horseshoe Tavern was one of the first bars I visited in Toronto and I have been back uncountable times since. Most of these times I went there, because there was one band playing that I really wanted to see. But with at least three gigs per night, I discovered so many more amazing musicians and bands.

diySafety pins: From hidden use to beautiful accessory

Sicherheitsnadelkette-2

[German/English] A new friend and colleague walked into the office the other day wearing this beautiful necklace and I just had to take a picture. This necklace is really easy to assemble but the genius in my eyes was also how fitting it was for the person wearing it: My colleague is a costume designer! With this necklace, she has got a safety pin handy whenever she needs it and is looking splendid at the same time.

hairAnother haircut – with great results this time!

Gossips-Anne-back-after-2013-11

[English] You could think that I was starting to have fun going to the hairdresser. I have to admit, it has become a lot more pleasant since I let my curls be and make sure that the person cutting them actually knows what he/she is doing. Funnily enough, my curls seem to be tamer the less I try to tie them down. But this time, the visit was a necessity because of the previous stylist’s attempt to reduce volume by cutting some underlying bundles extra short. Seven months later, these parts have grown and push the longer hair above them out and upward – a lovely hairdo that resembles a Christmas tree, no, thank you! Fortunately, I am back in North America and have a Deva trained hairdresser within reach: Gossips Hairstylists Inc.

look“Be better than the Gap”

TheGap_Jeans_kl

[English/German] The quote above is from the movie “Crazy, Stupid, Love”. Admittedly, not the most impressive source but very fitting in this case: Ryan Gosling is advising Steve Carell on how to dress to impress. Sure, he has got a point saying that the Gap does not offer the exciting cuts or special fabrics that characterize the key pieces in one’s wardrobe. But to me, its value lies in exactly that: good quality basics for a reasonable price. In a sense, the Gap is my American equivalent to S.Oliver in Germany – only, they have a tall section too!

recipesAll-time favorite: vegetable pie

1-Vegetable Pie

[English] “Quiche”, the French word alone sounds delicious to me. It makes me think of the flaky goodness of the crust and the melting, salty filling made from eggs and cheese. But it also sounds like a high-end dish which is difficult to make. The following recipe I learned in Australia where they call it a pie rather than quiche – sounds simpler but tastes just as good. It became one of the dishes I prepare quite frequently.

diyHilfe zur Selbsthilfe: Ärmelbündchen

2-Buendchen

diyClipping, cutting, arranging – Collage!

Sky

[German/English] Just a little fun project at the side inspired by a friend and artist who travelled to Turkey in order to accompany one of the last living nomad sheperds on his job. The second image (at the top of the page) was a further development of the theme as “fleecy clouds” translates into something like “clouds that look like sheep” in German (“Schäfchenwolken”).
